Lady Gaga’s Tattoos
Lady Gaga the Pop superstar has eleven tattoos in total, all of her tattoos are on the left side of her body as her father asked for one of her sides to stay ‘normal’. So out of respect for her father this is what she has done. Gaga actually refers to the left side of her body as her “Iggy Pop side” and the right side of her body as her “Marilyn Monroe side.”
Her first tattoo was a treble clef at the centre of her lower back, she got this when she was only 17 years old, she had to use a fake ID as she was underage. Later she added a large flower tattoo beside it and had the music note touched up.
Another one of her earlier tattoos is a design of three daisies on her left shoulder.
Lady Gaga has a peace sign tattoo on her left wrist as a tribute to John Lennon, who is one of her musical idols. She had this pointing inwards towards her as a reminder to herself. Gaga quoted ‘The reason I had it put kind of upside down is because I wanted it to be a reminder to me that even though I always write fun music about sequins and panties and fame and money, that I make sure to always keep in mind the important things’
She also has a large tattoo of roses that goes from her lower back to the left side of her waist. This piece was done by the very famous tattoo artist Kat Von D 2008 and it was filmed for the show LA Ink. Lady Gaga told Kat Von D ‘You do beautiful work. It’s really elegant and the lines are perfect’
In 2009 during her trip to Japan Lady Gaga got two tattoos, one of which is “Tokyo Love” on her shoulder. Gaga got this tattoo along with a few members of her team of stylists and designers.
The other tattoo Gaga got in Japan was some writing on her bicep and was actually written in German. The tattoo translates to ‘Confess to yourself in the deepest hour of the night whether you would have to die if you were forbidden to write. Dig deep into your heart, where the answer spreads its roots in your being, and ask yourself solemnly, Must I write?’ and it is a passage from her favourite writer Rainer Maria Rilke.
Lady Gaga’s tribute to her father by getting a heart with a banner on her left shoulder which says ‘dad’. She got this one done shortly after her father had successful open heart surgery.
Next was a tribute to her fans she had “Little Monsters’ tattooed on her arm below her bicep tattoo.’Little Monsters’ is what she calls her fans. a. After winning her Grammy awards she tweeted ‘We won big tonight little monsters. I am so proud to make music 4 you. I hope I continue to inspire u the way u inspire me. You’re everything.’ She Tweeted again to show off the tattoo with the caption ‘look what i did last night. little monsters forever, on the arm that holds my mic. xx’
In September 2010 she had a unicorn tattooed on her thigh with a banner ‘Born This Way’. The unicorn is a symbol of uniqueness and rarity.
In August 2012 she had ‘ARTPOP’ inked on her arm which is set to be the title of her new album.
Next Gaga shower off an anchor tattoo on her ribcage which was inked by Henk Schiffmacher at the Amsterdam Tattoo Museum.
